Rolanda Merritt: Define unfair. Is it unfair for some people to be born to rich families that send them to Harvard or Yale? Is it unfair for some people to have a Hummer and not worry about the price of gas? Yes, I think these things are unfair. So, if taxes are unfair, it is only appropriate.

Peter Lapoint: Are people being taxed unfairly? Yes. Politicians say that we have a progressive tax code, yet Social security taxes and medicare taxes are a huge burden on poor people. Our politicians also tlk about raising taxes on rich. It sounds good, but when you raises taxes, it ultimately hurts the poor, because when tax expenses go up, people cut spending else where. The money raised does not help citizens because our government is inefficient. Look at Katrina, or veterns affairs. How much is too much and how little is too little?By the way, I believe that in the US taxes are actually non-constitutional, that is, there is no mention of having to pay taxes in the constitution.
