what's a good camcorder to buy?

Jacinta Moitoso: Here's a helpful camcorder buying guide that also explains the various recording formats:http://www.easycamcorders.com/content/Beginners-Gu...and a list of top camcorders in various price range for 2006 -http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/CamInfo-Selec...

Kizzy Hett: I own the Panasonic Pvgs35 and I think it's a great camcorder. I bought mine here:http://www.anglomall.com/Store/display_item.asp?pr...It has optical zoom and you can connect to your PC with a USB data cable.

Laveta Fathy: I think you should get a Sharp camcorder because I hear that it is the best kind to get. I don't no the difference between dvd'd and whatever else you said.have a nice day

Cliff Tyre: DVD Camcorder: The camcorder records directly onto an blank writable standard sized DVD disc (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW). If purchasing a DVD Camcorder, make sure to see what DVD format it requires (older models may not support all formats)Mini-DVD Camcorder: Is when th! e Camcorder records directly onto an mini DVD writable disc. Here's an image of a Mini-DVD inside a jewel case made for standard sized DVDs (for size comparison): http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/pr/proshopsmar... Hard Drive Camcorder: Camcorder itself has a hard-drive (hard-disk) built inside of the unit. There is no need for secondary purchase of a tape or disc to begin recording.High-Definition (It's proper definition: High Definition Video or HDV): Is a digital format that records at a high quality. Here's an article about HDV camcorders: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,125821-page,1/ar...Also some in-depth information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDVHDV's are good for amateur film makers, and sometimes used by local news television stations on a budget.Point and Shoot: Simply put, it's made for the consumer who do not have time to learn all the intricacies of shooting a video. You can expect options where the process of shooting video/film under the right co! nditions will be abstracted for the person. Active Amateur and! Professional film makers are most likely to avoid point and shoot camcorders. Hi8 Camcorders: Hi8 (a.k.a. Video8) Camcorders are camcorders that record on "Hi8 Tapes": http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thum...The Hi8/Video8 format is created by Sony. More information about the Hi8 format is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi8#Hi8There really is no "best camcorder", however there is a "best camcorder for it's purpose". If you want to record youtube vidoes, I'd say go with compact sized camcorder (mini-dvd, mini-dv). If you're going to record important events like a wedding, graduations, I personally would get a HDV camcorder. I made the mistake of getting a mini-dv camcorder to record my graduation, and the quality was so poor (big mistake). Here's a comparison chart of what a mini-dv cassette looks like: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thum...My personal recommendation is this:Camcorders For Play: $0-$600Camcorders For Important Event! s: $601-$5000Camcorders For Film: $5001+One last note, It's very important to be aware of the raw recording quality of any camcorder you will purchase. If your camcorder records at 640 x 480px then that means the "raw" image size is no larger than the average youtube video frame width and height. Be very careful to note this when you're buying a camcorder. I made that mistake at my graduation and I'm still regretting it. Here's a wiki article on video pixels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VideoSkip down to "Video Resolution".Hope this helps!...Show more
