UHF Radio Frequency Radio?

Wilmer Skidmore: you will need to take the radio to a Motorola shop to be programmed.Motorola will sell you the software, but it is very expensive and they guard the software to prevent cloning the software (Motorola has a staff of lawyers just for copyright infringement!).The Motorola service shop will charge about $50.00 to program the radio.I reviewed the ebay ad, and I would add this...APPROACH WITH CAUTION! THE AD HAS SOME TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS, REPLACING UHF WITH VHFTHE ITEM IS IN CHINA, THERE IS NO WARRANTY THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE A GENUINE MOTOROLA RADIO. YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE IT PROGRAMMED IN THE USA....Show more

Caryl Mclaen: The frequency will not change, but power output can! An antenna used for transmitting needs to have an "impedance" as close to possible to 50 ohms. Unless this is satisfied, radiated power will drop off, and in some cases damage can be done to the radio'! s output transistor(s). The other critical factor is the radiation pattern produced from an antenna. This is a design factor that needs to be considered, as a poor radiation pattern can considerably reduce range.
